New Hartford Volunteer Fire Department
New Hartford, Connecticut
New Hartford is located in the upper west corner of Connecticut in the foothills of the Berkshire mountains. It has a population of almost 7,000 spread though its 38 square miles of land. There are several lakes and ponds as well as the scenic Farmington River. In the winter, Ski Sundown is in operation. We are only 20-miles from downtown Hartford, 30-minutes from Bradley International Airport and about 2-hours from New York City and Boston.
New Hartford Fire has two stations. One is downtown. The other is 1,100 feet up in the West Hill section of town. We are one of three, independent fire departments in town. We have approximately 25 active members and are always ready to welcome new members into the department. Our membership categories include:
Interior firefighters (we will provide training if you're new)
Exterior firefighters (for those that don't want to spend the 240-hours of training to be considered Interior)
We are governed by a fire district that is comprised of 5-elected officials. We are funded by taxation via the fire district. The current mil rate is 1.1.
